6 Ways to Prepare for Furniture Delivery Services

Picking out new furniture is exciting as new fixtures can completely transform a room, but then you must consider your furniture delivery options. Prepare for furniture delivery and ensure everything goes smoothly with some simple options.

1. Cushion Corners
Follow the direct path furniture will take as it ventures into your house. Check to see if there are any sharp corners through the ideal delivery path. Sharp corners could include countertops, banisters, or other pieces of furniture. Ideally, you want to cushion those sharp corners if you can't avoid them.
Not only will the corner cushions prevent furniture damage, but you also do not need to worry about a delivery worker hitting their body on the sharp area. Cover sharp corners with a small piece of foam. Use a piece of duct tape to secure the piece. The temporary fix will add a lot of extra protection. You could also purchase a child safety kit that is made to attach to sharper corners of furniture.
2. Remove Exterior Doors
You should also consider exterior doors issues with your furniture delivery. If you have a screen door or a storm door on your house, consider removing the exterior door. The removal gives more space to maneuver pieces of furniture into the home. If the furniture is already put together, you want as much space as possible to get through the doorframe.
Once a door is removed, you do not have to worry about constantly holding it open or putting extra pressure on the door hinges.
3. Use Furniture Sliders
Once you know the area where the new piece will go, you will want to clear out a path and ensure you have plenty of space to maneuver around. One of the easiest ways to move other pieces of furniture is with furniture sliders. The large pieces slide underneath the legs of furniture and allow you to push heavy furniture around without the need to do any lifting.

4. Dust & Vacuum

5. Purchase Child-Safety Scissors
A lot of new furniture comes packaged in plastic wrap to prevent any damage during shipping. When you remove the plastic wrap, you want to avoid any sharp scissor or knife contact with the surface of your new furniture. Purchase child-safety scissors ahead of time for safer access. The scissors typically feature rounded edges and dull blades that will not damage the furniture.
6. Remove Low-Hanging Fixtures
Low-hanging lights and other fixtures can create problems when delivery workers carry large furniture pieces into your home. Prevent shattered light bulbs and other accidents by removing the hanging fixtures. Even if the fixture itself is hard to move, try to remove just the light bulbs. Chances are, the delivery occurs during the day and you will not need the bulbs anyway.
